Staff Sergeant Vincent Summers

I just received an email from my aunt, who has taught 5th grade in South Haven, MI for 28 years. She wrote to tell me that one of her former students was killed this past week in Iraq. He must have been one of the first kids she ever taught.

(NEWS 3) - A Van Buren County soldier was among five American troops killed this month when a roadside bomb detonated near their vehicle in Iraq.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that 38-year-old Staff Sergeant Vincent Summers died 10 days ago when he and four of his comrades were the targets of a makeshift bomb that went off underneath their Bradley fighting vehicle Ramadi, Iraq.

Summers attended high school in South Haven. He was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Summers leaves behind a wife. Funeral services are being planned in Killeen, Texas.

There have been 2000 American soldiers killed in the Iraq war.

Thank you for sharing this story.

I wish Vincent and others could have their lives spared with an end to this war. It must end.
